Meeting minutes from 4 13 09 are we being served

topic for discussion
Questions to ponder:

1. Are we being well served?
2. Are there issues not being discussed?
3. Needs not being met?
4. Communities and races not at the table?
5. Are the voices of the community and neighborhoods being heard?
6. Are the community leaders communicating effectively?

NHA Meeting 4-13-09
Question: are we being served?
A conversation of we would like to see out of our political and community leadership
Dialogue to create a “ white paper” to be presented to political office candidates and office holders. Northside neighborhood hood leadership, Mayors office.

Observation: Concern from caucus black vs white for position.

Comment from e-mail:
“I think it is about time we make our elected officials accountable for there actions, they are suppose to represent there constituents and many time they have hidden agendas and don't let the community know what they are going to do.”

Comment from e-mail: “Afraid of relinquishing of power or sharing knowledge”
Comments from meeting attendees:
• Not bringing the bacon home.
• Not getting communication out on what is going on.
• Would like to see a newsletter, more email information or web info, better dialogue on bills and issues like proposed ordinances why and what’s coming.
• Meetings at times more convenient with communities
• Establish e-mail list and send out meeting info to community.
• More openness.

Maybe a monthly newsletter emailed or ?
North Mpls is only integrated neighborhood and is very diverse.
.
Question: are all races being served?
• Don’t think anyone is being served.
• They (communities of color) are completely outside of any process
• Need to engage more
• How can we interact more with all races, bring all races to table? (broaden that to “classes” as well. )

Need more effort into community engagement and again more communication with the community.

Question: are neighborhood organizations communicating effectively?
Comments from attendees:
• Too much power
• Not enough cooperation
• Establish leadership on a ten-year plan for the community
• Some sort of broader development plan
• Better community development plan for the community

• Get the neighborhoods shaking hands

• Better dialoue with the school district on what is happening on our communities with schools and how this will impact out property values. The direct impacts of neighborhoods and schools too important to not have better dialogue.
• If we don’t have good schools, people will not want to live here
• Realize the two are connected.

• Suggest a northside leadership coalition for the political leadership.
• More notice of meetings and minutes from meetings

• More community meetings and asking for feedback on proposals.

• More restrictions on rental property

Other notes :

• Will do the potlucks again for the summer starting in June.

• Plant swap will be held on May 30th, 9am to 1pm at The Warren - An Artist Habitat located at 4400 Osseo Road, Minneapolis (corner of Osseo Rd & 44th Ave. N.).
